Hospice for Rabun County 

Hospice is an organization that may be charitable or for-profit, but most insurance plans cover the expenses of the program.
What is a hospice facility or home–based program? These programs must be prescribed by your doctor. The program includes special volunteers/nurses/counselors that are trained to deal with end-of-life situations. Whether it is special pain management, skilled nursing care or counseling for the patient and family, these dedicated professionals will make the transition from a hospital setting to a home or hospice facility. It does not mean treatment or other forms of therapy can’t be used. Usually it is a situation where most of the attempts to treat the cancer have been exhausted, but there are still needs that need to be met outside the hospital setting.
Palliative care is part of this concept and in some cities there are actually specialists trained specifically in this type of skill. Obviously, it is a time to get one’s affairs in order and be prepared for the inevitable. Having these caring professionals there at that time is very helpful to the peace of mind of the patient and the family. Hospice programs can differ.
